Cultural Services

The Cultural Department provides culturally appropriate and holistic services to children and families within the context of the Child, Family and Community Services Act and the policies and procedures of Gitxsan Child & Family Services. Providing connections to community members through culturally based experiences.  

The Cultural Department will support the vision of Gitxsan Child & Family Services in promoting healthy Gitxsan families while being inclusive of our Gitxsan structure and protocols. Utilizing our Gitxsan Hereditary Structure when appropriate in a culturally sensitive environment. 

 

Transportation services:

  • Where there is risk to children, the services plan will directly address reducing the risk by working with the Gitxsan family.

  • Work with youth, parents and elders groups, identifying needs and issues in the community and how we can bring these groups to work together.

  • Support Gitxsan families where the support services agreement identifies a need for the family to become connected to their wil naa t’ahl and wilxsi’witxw.

  • To establish relationships with the Gitxsan huwilp to ensure the best services to the Gitxsan families.

 

Cultural Services includes:

  • Wellness Counsellors

  • Family Wellness Workers

  • Family Case Workers

  • Cultural Enhancement Workers

  • Family Group Conferencing

We Support Supervised Visits:

  • Advocates encourages the family to advocate on their behalf when appropriate.

  • Encourages the family to ensure the ongoing safety and development of children within the family.

  • To monitor visits, and provide support when necessary.
